Need some new punk music in your ears? I’ve got your fix with the new album by London-based Brain Ape, “Auslander.”
“Auslander” is Brain Ape’s second full-length album. Released in late August, it shows the evolution and growth of the band. Calling their sound “scratch rock,” it blends elements of punk, stoner, grunge and rock into a tasty blend of high-octane energy.
Minky, Jacob Powell and Sol are a dynamic trio who are quickly gaining notoriety in the indie community for their music.
Get this in your ears now. Here are my thoughts, track by track:
“Give Me My P45” – Pure and simple punk. Brilliant tribal drums and perfect guitar noodling.
“Watercolour” – Tinkly guitar melodies and hard-hitting guitar riffs power this stomper.
“Graphomania” – The bass sets the tone early of this introspective song. It’s a good one.
“Respect Your Icons” – Slamming punk sound from the onset, this one never lets up.
“The Quick Brown Dog Jumps Over The Lazy Fox” – The old typing rhyme (remember that one?) takes on new meaning in this bouncy, up and down tune.
“I Could Use Some Food” – An interesting little acoustic guitar piece to start, it builds and gains power as it goes on.
“Stop Sulking” – A good head-banging, jumping, mosh-pit inducing tune here. A bit anthemic, too!
“Das Krokodil Will Barfuß Sein” – Full on punk, with wicked drums and slamming guitars, propelled by bullet-train speed drums.
“Blood Blister” – Crunchy guitars and low bass licks drill into your head in this super heavy groove.
“Extra-Tourette’strial” – Slam-bam and bouncy, full-bore punk rock. Mosh-tastic for sure!
“Oh, David” – Very moody and experimental to start, this song finds it’s groove while keeping the moodiness running.
“Hunger” – A bit trippy and thoroughly grungy, with a bit of a Nirvana sound thrown in for good measure.
